Bridges to Understanding is a half-day workshop designed to help individuals identify their opinions and feelings about workforce diversity. In this workshop, employees assess their level of comfort or discomfort in four key diversity areas: Knowledge Understanding Acceptance and Behavior
Employees will learn how they personally respond to work-force diversity issues and where increased understanding is needed. Helpful suggestions for improving relationships with diverse groups are provided. This training goes beyond cultural awareness and valuing diversity. It is a catalyst for building an organization that is free from discrimination, one that allows everyone to be appreciated and to make a contribution. Participants will learn the competencies needed to work effectively with people, whether co-workers or clients, that are different from themselves.
Participants will also learn the skills needed to address inappropriate behavior in the workplace. This is achieved by having participants explore real life situations, and then build and refine the skills necessary to understand, appreciate and communicate respect for others. The result is an enhanced workplace, where diversity becomes a strength instead of a weakness, a workplace likely to have fewer instances of bias and discrimination and where everyone can function in an inclusive atmosphere.
Participants become involved in determining what could have been done differently to minimize vulnerability. Negative scenarios are rewritten and positive interaction replaces unproductive behavior.
Participants will gain a sense of responsibility for speaking up when inappropriate or discriminatory remarks are made; they’re given the means to become part of the solution instead of part of the problem.
